The Festive Champagne Afternoon Tea at The Dorchester Hotel in Mayfair became an instant holiday tradition with my family from the very moment we stepped into The Promenade back in 2015 as we spent our first holiday season in London. We fell in love with the elegance of the hotel. It makes for a beautiful backdrop for a very special tea.
The Promenade is always a picture perfect setting, yet simultaneously feels warm and welcoming.
Incredible floral displays and beautifully lit, decorated trees throughout the lobby and promenade of the hotel are simple yet absolutely stunning. And there is always a touch of whimsy be it carousel horses or a miniature version of the hotel, itself!
The restaurant staff are charming, friendly and skilled at making you feel like you’re the only guest in the room. The first and only exception to the superb services was when the gentleman taking care of us this year made a comment about my son having a coke. He’s only nine, not a tea drinker and it was a special occasion. I really lamented over whether or not I should have mentioned that. Overall, the staff are terrific with children.
And the food? So good! The tea sandwiches are always fresh, delicious and plentiful. Every year I have trouble deciding which one I enjoyed the most. There is something for everyone ranging from turkey, smoked salmon and cucumber to egg salad and ham. And they’re super accommodating with special requests and dietary restrictions.
There is a fine selection of teas available. I almost always end up choosing the First Romance blend. I have a thing for floral notes in my tea.
The scones are light and served with the traditional clotted cream and a selection of jams.
The desserts are a thing of beauty. They’re almost too pretty eat. Almost. The flavors are sophisticated and unusual. My favorite this year was Santa’s Hat which contained gingerbread panacotta and mulled wine jelly. And just when you think you could not possibly eat another bite along comes the mince pies.
The Festive Champagne Afternoon Tea at The Dorchester Hotel is one of the events that we truly look forward to all year. It only enhances the experience of the already incredibly festive atmosphere in London this time of the year. I highly recommend going if you happen to be in London at the holidays!
